The 5 most beautiful tropical islands

15.05.2019

Palm trees, turqoise crystalclear water, snow-white sand - characteristics that made me choose those five islands for my ranking about the 5 most beautiful islands I´ve ever been to. No matter if it´s a quite big, well-known island, or a hidden paradise in the middle of the ocean, all those islands got one thing in common: they look absolutely stunning!

5. Koh Nang Yuan, Thailand

This beautiful island is located not far from some of the most popular Thai islands like "Koh Samui" and "Koh Phangan" and just within spitting distance from "Koh Tao" . On this small triangular island there is just one single restaurant plus some wooden huts that add up to a small resort. During the day there might be some tousists as Koh Nang Yuan got an amazing underwater world, so that´s why the surrunding islands offer snorkeling-day-trips to this beauty, but as soon as they leave, you´ve got this island pretty much to yourself. It´s got crystal clear water, snow white sand, a lot of green space and a pretty amazing view point. Definitely worth a visit!

4. Zanzibar, Tanzania

As you can see on the photos, the turquoise of the water varies from light to dark. The special thing here is that it can change within meters or seconds depending on the weather and the depth of the water, but anyway, I´d say it looks gorgeous! Zanzibar island is quite big compared to the other islands on this list, but still really charming as generates a huge contrast to heartland of Tanzania which includes world famous national parks - like "Serengeti" where you got a pretty good chance to see the "big 5" - as well as Mount Kilimanjaro. We stayed in Kendwa, a small village in the north of Zanzibar as well as in a gorgeous Airbnb - a beachfront villa close to Paje in the southeast of the island. The last day we spent in Zanzibar city which is known for it´s spices that you can buy on local markets. The old town has got some pretty interesting stone buildings which you should definitely check out when you´ve got some hours to kill before your flight!

3. Leleuvia, Fiji

Leleuvia Island is a really small one-resort island located east of the main island "Viti Levu", but it´s really peaceful as it takes about one hour by boat to reach Leleuvia. We stayed on an islands near Leleuvia which was also pretty, but has not had such beautiful shades of turquoise water like Leleuvia, so that was why we choose to make a boat trip to check out this gorgeous island and it was really worth it. Even thought there is a resort on this island, there were still just a couple of tourists staying there so we had a chance to explore this island on our own which gave us some kind of Robinson-Crusoe-feeling. Leleuvia looks really stunning with its white sand and uncountable palm trees! We also did some island-hopping on the Yassawas, but i prefered those smaller islands as it was kinda like having a private island! Definitely an island-paradise!

2.  Whitsunday Island, Australia

Whiteheaven beach, Australia´s most famous beach and maybe even one of the world´s most famous beaches is located on this island: Whitsunday Island. There are 74 islands that belong to the "Whitsundays", but Whitsunday island itself might be the most well-known. One of the best experiences I´ve ever had was a scenic flight over Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Island with it´s ultrawhite Whiteheaven beach. I also did some kind of sailing tour to Whitsunday island the next day which was also pretty impressive as I had a chance to look at Whiteheaven beach from a gorgeous viewpoint, but was also able to spend some time just hanging out at the Whiteheaven Beach. There´s a good reason why it´s called "whiteheaven" - the sand was so bright, it really dazzled aaaand it really deserves to be called "heaven".

1. Aitutaki, Cook Islands

Aitutaki belongs to the Cook islands, a tiny state in the  southern pacific region. As I took a flight frome Aukland to Rarotonga, which is the main island of the Cooks, i was really impressed by it´s beauty and did not expect to find something even more beautiful than that - but that´s what I did when I continued my journey to Aitutakil. To get to Aitutaki you gotta take a small airplane from Rarotonga - I´ve never enjoyed a flight more than this one as I had an amazing view over the atoll of Aitutaki - the "main island" is surrunded by a ring reef and every island even more beautiul than the other. Even the main island is really small, so you can explore Aitutaki´s amazing beaches by bicycle (which you can rent on the island). Make sure to attend a lagoon-boat-tour when visiting Aitutaki to get a chance to see how many different shades of tourqouise do actually exist! Aitutaki got the most beautiful shades of turqouise I´ve ever seen.. and in combination with the snow-white sand and the uncountable palm trees, it´s just simply amazing. If true perfection exists, Aitutaki is really close to it!
