Geocaching - GPS treasure hunting game

10.06.2020

As I was posting some stories about geocaching last time and some of you guys have never heard of it before, I thought I gonna make a little blog post to tell you what this hobby of mine is actually about.

So geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure hunting game (which you can play worldwide) using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocach (usually a tiny container) hidden at that location by following some hints. The container usually includes a logbook, where you can write down your username and the date, but sometimes you can even find stickers or other little items geocachers where putting there. You can also log the cach at a map on your phone to get a little smiley. So it´s also about collecting as many smileys as possible.

To hide is the beginning. To seek is the result. To find is the adventure.

Looking at this geocaching quote, I already found the reason why i like geocaching. It´s this little word at the end of the quote. Adventure.

The majority of the geocaches are just a logbook placed in an old little film container, but there are also some geocaches that look pretty cool (like the ones on the pictures above). There are also some tiny geocaches being only about 1 cm big, but still having like a paper roll inside, so people can add their name plus the date to log them!

Those who know me also know that I really like Harry Potter, so here´s a fun fact.

In Harry Potter "normal" people (those ones that aren´t magicians) are called muggles. This term is also used among geocachers for those people that aren´t geocaching!
